Carpool in Manila

Since January 2017, I have been exploring how easy (or hard) it is to carpool in Manila. Will it be a better option for commuting to work? And is it actually possible?

It has been almost 3 months since I started carpooling.
And to answer the questions above:

Will it be a better option for commuting to work?
- Yes. (But I think this will still depend on Home/Work location)

And is it actually possible?
- Suprisingly, yes. There are drivers in the community who are willing to share their ride to neighbors heading the same way. And passengers (like me) who choose to ride with these drivers and be able to share in travel cost.

But how much does it actually cost to carpool?

Here are some of my trip costs from using Uberpool and Wunder Carpool.

Uberpool

These are some of my trips using Uberpool from Home to Work.

Total # of Trips = 12
Total Cost of 12 trips = 1300
Average cost per ride = 108

Wunder Carpool

This is summary of all the trips I made using Wunder.
It includes rides going to work from home and also going home from work.

Total # of Trips = 31
Total Cost of 31 trips = 1550
Average cost per ride = 50

It is very much evident how much cheaper it is compared to Uberpool rates. This is because Wunder drivers do not make a profit from sharing their ride. It is just enough to help cover the gas/parking and maintenance expense.

Carpooling makes my commute to work more convenient and comfortable.
Using Wunder as a platform, makes it possible and affordable.

But there are also other reasons why I choose to carpool:
- to help lessen pollution
- to help ease traffic
- be able to get to know people in my community, at the same time, making new friends

So why should more people try carpooling?
- Why not? :)
